The Monte Hospital has a large holding of jigs, patterns, dies, tooling and samples for the production of many steel body, door and structural panels for the Lancia Montecarlo and Scorpion.

Pininfarina produced 8,500-odd Montecarlos and Scorpions between 1975 and 1981. We doubt that world-wide there are more than 2,000 cars remaining in either restored or restorable condition. If they’re restored their owners probably don’t need body or structural panels, so the pool of potential customers for these parts is very small. On average we receive maybe ten enquiries per year.

With such a small potential market our options are very limited. As an example, even if we were able to find a company who could supply us with steel wings using our tooling they would probably want minimum orders for fifty of each type. To allow us to cover all four corners of the car we’d have to commit to buying 200 wings. At, say, £500 each that’s an investment of £100,000. Then we’d have to store them which would mean renting or buying more storage space – and not some damp old barn that encourages rust either. Much as we’d like to, we don’t have the capital to commit to that sort of level of expenditure, which would take us many years to recover. And that’s just for the wings…..

We can't see a realistic way for us to re-introduce these products at this point in time without help from our customers.  If you have an interest in any of the parts listed in the 'Steel Panels' category please email me and tell me the part numbers you need.

NOTE - We have introduced or will shortly be introducing high-quality glassfibre alternatives wherever we can.
