FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

MH1502 – SPIDER ROOF STRAPS

IMPORTANT

Please follow these instructions carefully. Do not attempt to fit these straps at low ambient temperatures. Ideally the air temperature should be at least 23°C as the fitting process subjects the straps to stresses that are in excess of those encountered during normal use. The straps are made from an automotive plastic material and once installed they are usually long-lasting and durable. Do not attempt to fold back the mounting tabs at the front of each strap before fitting is complete.

FITTING

[1] With a small round file elongate the roof strap mounting holes in the rear lift-up flap by around 4mm each way (forwards and backwards). Take care not to leave any metal filings on your car’s paintwork.

[2] Lay the roof straps upside down with the front mounting holes positioned over the threaded holes at each side above the windscreen and the rear mounts facing forwards over the windscreen pillars and front bonnet. Fit the fix plates and screws but only tighten the screws sufficiently to hold the straps in place (over-tightening can lead to cracking and premature failure of the strap).

DO NOT fold the straps back at this point

[3] Unfurl the spider roof and insert its front edge into the front cross rail. Then fold the roof straps back carefully over the forward edge of the hood.

[4] Now fit the threaded posts at the rear ends of the straps through the elongated holes in the lift-up flap, then fit and tighten the mounting nuts until they are finger tight. Now carefully close the flap. It should drop down under its own weight until it is about 10mm above the rear latches. If it doesn’t drop this far then undo the mounting nuts, disengage the straps and elongate the mounting holes a little further. Once you obtain the correct clearance you can fully tighten the mounting nuts.

[5] With the spider roof extended the hooks on the lift-up flap should engage easily with the catches, holding the edges of the spider roof lightly but firmly against the rubber roof seal. If the straps are too loose or the lift-up flap is difficult to close, repeat this adjustment procedure until you find the correct position.
